Abel Tasman National park
We celebrated New Years in Wellington. We danced and ate burgers and the first day of 2017 we took the ferry from Wellington over to Picton on the South island. We found some kind of crowded and cheap campsite to stay over night and the day after we woke up to the view of tall mountains covered in mist and we started our trip towards Abel Tasman National park.

Just like it is traveling in New Zealand, we had to do pull over a couple of times and just savour the great scenery of this country.

In Abel Tasman we did a hike along the coastline and we met all kinds of people. Families brining picnics to the nearby beaches, backpackers walking toward a campsite and runners doing their daily route. Obviously, Abel Tasman is a National park for everyone. The hike is not to hard BUT it gives you amazing views. So worth it.

One of the most common activities to do around this area is renting a kayak and doing the coastalwalk which is as long as 60 kilometers.

We did an four hour return hike before we had some pasta in our new, spacious car and started moving on to find somewhere to sleep for the night. We could have done freedom camping this night but since we were staying in a tourist area we supposed the odds of getting caught were pretty high so after a lot of car driving through AMAZING places we found a horse farm that also was a hostel.

That evening we went for a walk towards the beach to see if we could find any glowworms. And so we did! We found a whole cluster of glowworms lightning up the whole path and it was drop dead beautiful and gorgeous. At that moment I just couldn't get a grip of how nature can create such insanely cool stuff. To be in New Zealand is a constantly struggle to take in what nature has to offer you. The nature, the animals and the people. And it's just so yummy to get overwhelmed by surrounding after surrounding day after day.
The day after we woke up with the rain pouring down. We quickly realized that this should be a day of travel. So we packed ourselves and our portable stove in to the car and accelerated as never.
